Famous Deira clock tower landmark in Dubai

The Deira Clock Tower or sometimes called the Dubai Clock Tower was built during 1962. It is a roundabout located in eastern Dubai in Deira, at the intersection of Umm Hurair Road and route D 89 or Al Maktoum Road. This clock tower is one of Dubai’s oldest monuments that was built by Overseas AST. However, during 1972, the monument started to crack and corrode because the local builder used unwashed beach sand for the concrete . It was then refurbished and restored in the same year.

Deira Clock Tower

The clock tower idea was from Ing Otto Bulard. He drew a sketch of his clock tower idea and gave it to his Engineer to make some calculations and produce a design. The clock tower was not derived from an oil drill bit nor does it represent it in any way. It was then purposely constructed on a traffic roundabout to protect the clock tower.
